Water Water Everywhere...

We're now in Taupo, a city built ostensibly around a lake - a huge lake (by Brit standards), that is apparently clean enough to drink directly. Given what people often do while swimming in Lakes, I'll skip that nourishing exercise, but it's beautiful nonetheless...
I find this a very interesting comment.
I totally sympathise with the "ick" factor of drinking water from a lake that people swim in, and I suspect most people do.
But then I wonder why: given that the content / composition of the water is likely to be more affected by the excretia of the crustacea, fish, birds and aquatic mammals that inhabit the lake and its shores.
Does this mean we are more comfortable drinking a dilluted suspension of fish poo, than dilluted human urine?
