A Bit of Nostalgia
I was reading a friend's blog the other day, in which he reminisced briefly about TV programs and adverts from his youth.
His point was that until recently such reminiscences were simply recalling common memories with friends, but that now you can actually find clips on the Internet, for an altogether more realistic and spooky trip down memory lane.
Carrying the theme on (OK maybe plaguerising his idea a bit - sorry Isaac!), I've compiled a list of my own favourites.
I've excluded such obvious cult-classics as Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet (or indeed anything from the Gerry and Sylvia Anderson fold), Blake's 7 and Dr Who etc as they occasionally enjoy re-runs, revivals or are released on DVD, and so are more familar to us today.
So the list is primary those gems which have passed into the realm of distant, fond memories, and which evoke (to me at least) a bizarre and intense sense of time-warp:
- Camberwick Green
- Trumpton
- Chigley (all three narrated by UK children's TV god, Brian Cant)
- H.R. Pufnstuf (a rare outing for the late Jack Wild - aka The Artful Dodger from "Oliver!")
- The Herbs
- Hector's House
- Marine Boy
- Battle of The Planets (G-Force) (is it just me, or is the animation really similar to Marine Boy?)
- Roobarb and Custard
And last but certainly not least:
- The Tomorrow People - I was sooo hooked on this; even now the opening credits give me goose-bumps...
*sigh*
They don't make 'em like they used to...
