Why "The White Charger"?

OK, so I've been asked a couple of times why I use "The White Charger" as my Internet handle.

The simple reason is that many years ago, before blogs existed, I wrote a kind of blogging system for my place of work to share information. For some reason I chose "The White Charger" as my handle: I thought it was kind of random and unconventional, and in-keeping with my generally unconventional approach to life.

I have stuck with it since then, initially because I was too lazy to think of anything else.

But then I began to realise how much I identified with qualities of a White Charger, and that my choice was probably not as random as I thought:

• A White Charger is a type of horse, and my Zodiac Year of birth is the year of the Horse.
• I admire the blend of grace, "nobilty" and strength in horses.
• I love the duality of a horse as a wild, untamed spirit, but also an animal that can be tamed and used to serve humanity (without losing its dignity).
• A White Charger was a horse often used in legends by Knights. The Knight would ride The White Charger while he performed heroic deeds and dispatched evil from this world. Thus The White Charger was both instrumental in performing these tasks, but remained humble in anonymity, a vehicle for the Knight.
• I identify strongly with the honour and chivalry of the legendary Knights.

So there you have it, the origins of The White Charger.
