A Prayer is Answered
This came to me during a peaceful moment in the garden, following some rather active contributions on the Intent Blog, The Maltese Donkey's Great Adventure, and some half-IMs with Isaac.
I would like to say it is all mine, but some of it felt like it came from a voice I'd heard long ago as a child, when I was not paying much attention.
A Prayer is Answered
One night, I prayed to God:
Lord, help me know You,
So that I may better do Your Will.
That night in dreams He came to me,
And painted in my mind:
A wonderous, formless shape in colours I'd never seen.
Next day I went in to the world
To spread the Love of God I felt,
And paint what I had seen.
But lacking,
Common shapes I painted, in colours often seen,
And thus I made a fool of me.
The next night I prayed to God:
Lord, help me know You,
So that I may better do Your Will.
That night in dreams He came to me,
And sang in to my mind:
A song with words unspoken and music I'd never heard.
Next day I went in to the world
To spread the Love of God I felt,
And sing what I had heard.
But lacking,
In spoken words I sang, with music often heard,
And thus I made a fool of me.
The next night, I prayed to God:
Lord, help me know You,
So that I may better do Your Will.
That night He came to me,
And spoke in to my heart:
I've shown you all I can,
You know Me as best you can.
To understand what you already know,
And to know what you must do,
One final thing remains:
To know who you really are,
And that part of Me is You.
Next morning I went in to the world
To spread the Love of God I felt,
By being who I knew I was,
And knowing that was Him.
